Event Description

By March 5, 2012, Avnet will provide each team with a document detailing the objectives for the finished product that will be assembled on Game Day.  This document will provide the teams with the following at a detailed level:

  • An understanding of the prerequisite research and technical knowledge that may be needed to successfully complete the project.
  • A list of equipment, dimensions and parts will be covered.
  • A statement of the objectives and judging criteria

On Game Day - April 14, 2012, each team will be provided with a kit containing the parts necessary to build the finished product.  Each team shall:

  • Assemble the water pump with the objective of meeting or exceeding the design specifications
  • Test their finished product
  • Prepare a product presentation to deliver to the judges
  • And finally, demonstrate their project on Game Day for evaluation and judging

Each Team shall determine the objective features, characteristics, and selling points for their unique implementation, however, teams are judged on a base statement of functional objectives that are included with the documentation provided in advance of Game Day, the quality of their presentation and the functional demonstration and measurement of the finished system’s performance by the judges.

Based on their creativity, experience/knowledge and their water pumping system's intended design and functionality, each team then builds, on GAME DAY  their solar-powered water pumping system. Although the teams are free to add other included components or augment the design in any creative or useful manner, their entry must be built into the water pumping system using only the provided materials.
